/Description and concept of the artwork

“Unraveling Heir” explores tradition, memory, and identity through clothing as a living symbol. A doily layered over a traditional Romanian blouse (ie) evokes domestic heritage, meticulous craftsmanship, and the passage of traditions through generations. In Romanian folk practice, blouses were sometimes made from household fabrics like curtains, a creative solution when fine fabrics weren’t available, adding layers of memory, resourcefulness, and personal history.
Puffed, layered sleeves suggest abundance, freedom, and breath, while sewn waves evoke the flow of time, memory, and femininity. Materials such as curtains and doilies carry the textures of memory, transformed through care and attention to what is worn, stained, or forgotten.
The work speaks to accepting identity through imperfection and history, reflecting “Love me as I am” and “love the material as it is.” Layering the doily over the blouse creates an embrace between generations, connecting the woman of the past with the woman of today, a dialogue between tradition, culture and reimagination.
《Unraveling Heir》 透過服裝作為一種「活著的象徵」,探索 傳統、記憶與身份認同。覆蓋於羅馬尼亞傳統襯衫(ie)之上的蕾絲桌墊(doily),喚起居家文化、細膩手工技藝,以及世代相傳的傳統軌跡。在羅馬尼亞民俗中,當精緻布料難以取得時,人們有時會以家用布料(如窗簾)製作襯衫,這是一種充滿創意的應對方式,也為服裝增添了記憶、韌性與個人歷史的層次。
