Charlene O'Brien is an Australian artist and sustainable fashion designer whose work transforms discarded materials into thoughtful, tactile expressions of renewal. Since 1997, she has worked with recycled textiles. natural dyes, beach waste, and eco denim, using slow stitch and hand weaving to honour mindful making. Her practice extends to woven sculptures crafted from beach rope and found objects, exploring the balance between fragility and resilience. As a board member representing Australia under the Global Sustainable Fashion Week, she advocates for circular design, environmental awareness, and creative reuse as pathways to healing both planet and spirit.

Artwork Statement - Earth Angel
Earth Angel is a sacred symbol of care and protection for the planet. Created from found wire, beach rope, and textile waste, she embodies transformation - where discarded materials are reborn through hand weaving and slow stitching into a figure of quiet strength and compassion.
Each strand carries a story of renewal, inviting reflection on our responsibility to nurture the earth and value what has been overlooked. Her woven form honours both fragility and resilience, echoing the cycles of nature and the healing rhythm of mindful making.
Through sustainable creation and spiritual intent, Earth Angel stands as as a
gentle reminder that beauty and balance can emerge from restoration - and that caring for the earth begins with reverence in every small act.
