Supervised by Professor Adriana Lucaciu, PhD, Habil., this applied doctoral research develops functional design solutions based on quantitative and qualitative data collected from wheelchair users regarding their needs, preferences, and mobility-related challenges. Insights from experts in psychology, medicine, and education further informed the process. The resulting inclusive and sustainable BEYOND LIMITS collection is grounded in user-centered methods, functioning as both adaptive clothing and a practical tool for social inclusion. Developed through continuous dialogue with voluntary collaborators, the project integrates transparency, reflection, and participatory design. The collection consists of 10 outfits and 24 unisex, ready-to-wear garments that prioritize comfort through natural fabrics, such as French terry, cotton, stretch denim, lyocell, and muslin, combined with technical, waterproof, and breathable materials, with nearly half of the garments OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified. Modular construction, adjustable systems, and elasticated areas ensure personalized fit, ease of dressing, and functional adaptability.
