Jaqueline Alvarado is a textile designer, dressmaker and embroiderer who lives and works in San José, Costa Rica. She explores the multiple material possibilities of textile design, and experimentation with different techniques and methodologies, focused on the use of fabric as a means of expression.

She is interested in the possibility of finding better interpretative forms in the use of textiles, rethinking their usability and questioning the waste that the textile industry produces, encouraging better practices and explorations through new technologies and the use of traditional techniques of manual and artisan production.

Perspectives on Tradition and Future, Sustainability and Fashion, and Life.

In my opinion it is an extraordinary platform for visualizing and recognizing the multiple interpretations and techniques used in all parts of the world to the work of fashion design and its various production techniques.

In addition to serving as a discussion for exploring the concept of sustainable fashion and the alternatives that we could follow for the creation of clothing.

The Concept and Description of the Work

The design was inspired by the attire used by coffee pickers in Costa Rica, using elements such as aprons, pockets, boots and straps to make size adjustments.

This vest was made in 100% cotton, and dyed respectively with turmeric, onion peels and black bean broth. The designs was done using Zero Waste pattern making techniques, and reserve techniques such as Shibori for dyeing and printing the fabrics.
