Manithip Vongphachanh (Arlin), a University of the Arts London graduate and fashion designer in Laos, skillfully incorporates my cultural roots into her designs using vibrant motifs. My work is known for dynamic textures and a narrative quality, drawing heavily on the rich heritage of Laos. I combined modern design techniques with these traditional elements, making each piece uniquely appealing and full of life. More than just visually stunning, my designs facilitate a vibrant conversation between the past and the present, celebrating the rich tapestry of Laotian culture. Dedicated to sustainability, I promote eco-friendly methods within the fashion industry, working to enhance ethical awareness and create an inclusive, creative community in both art and fashion.

Perspectives on Tradition and Future, Sustainability and Fashion, and Life.

At LeLao, I believe in harmonizing tradition with the future, where our cultural heritage becomes a cornerstone for innovative fashion. Embracing sustainability is not just a trend but a fundamental aspect of my designs, ensuring that every piece reflects responsibility towards the environment and communities. Fashion, in my view, is a powerful medium to express these values, merging aesthetics with ethics. Life, as I perceive it, is about creating meaningful connections and positive impacts through what we do and wear. It's about celebrating our past, being mindful in the present, and building a sustainable future with every thread we weave and create.

The Concept and Description of the Work

When creating the work that I present within lyrical abstraction, I have chosen the ancient technique of Batik, although I have used water-based pigments that are always much less harmful to the planet.

"Calligraphy Constellations" invites us to immerse ourselves in an ideal and sustainable hydrosphere, through asemic and fluid writing.

in which we are all represented as an intercultural metaphor of global diversity and its interrelation. Composition of plural identities in a cosmic organization towards the search for a common horizon.

The inspiration behind LOOM is deeply rooted in the heritage of Laos, drawing from its wide array of traditional motifs, weaving patterns, colours, and textures that narrate the country's rich history and vibrant culture. These elements are reimagined to align with contemporary trends, resulting in textiles that are both timeless and cutting-edge. LOOM incorporates traditional Laotian motifs, with designs inspired by the geometric diamond shape, symbolizing "protection." We have streamlined the intricate details of the design to reduce production time, optimizing cultural reverence and production efficiency. Utilizing deadstock materials and natural banana yarns, and providing fair wages, we improve weavers' livelihoods. The fabric can also be developed into accessory items. The design mission is to intertwine the past with the present, creating textiles that celebrate heritage while contributing to an ethical and sustainable practices framework for the future.
